I don't know why I am so exited. A-kon in Dallas is June 4th-6th, so it already happened, and I didn't get to go. But I'm really, REALLY exited about going next year! So exited, in fact, that I rambled about it, even though you probably don't care! Maybe having another thread will up activity for about a week, I dunno. I have 3 cosplays in mind~ Ty Lee from Avatar: The Last Airbender: (Arranged so I could go with my friends who are cosplaying as Azula and Mai~) Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist: (Because my friend who is going as Azula is also going as Edward) And Veser Hatch from Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name! (If you don't already read it, WHAT ARE YOU DOING, GO READ IT NOW. hanna.aftertorque.com/ ) Share enthusiasm? ... please? So I don't feel stupid? D:

I've never been to an anime convention, but lately I want to. My only problems would be money and location. I don't like traveling too far, and I don't like spending a lot of money for entrance fees when I know I'll be spending tons when I'm there.

Oh, I see. Both are valid reasons. I don't think I have the location problem, since I only live like an hour out of Dallas (that's not far.... is it? lol IDK Texas is big and distance is relative). But money is definitely an issue. Not counting whatever it costs to make a cosplay, there's I think a $60-80 entrance fee, and my friend spent like $200 a day just on STUFF. But she also splurges. But she also got money by selling manga volumes and candy to her friends. Not sure how much money you could make offa that, but I bet I'd be surprised. But I'm rambling now.

That sound like so much fun! I've recently started wanting to go to one, but they're always during the school year where I live. (I live in AZ, and they're in November-ish) Haha. A few of my teachers ditched school though to go and it looked awesome, so I really want to go, but my dad won't let me miss school.

Entrance fees are relative depending on the con. PCC (Phoenix ComiCon) was only $35 for a full event pass and it was one of the largest, most popular cons in the country. Also, most Cons offer discounts if you volunteer. For example, you get in free the day you volunteer and if you do so a totally of ___ hours you get free into the event. As for cosplaying, you can spend as much or little as you want. Most of the clothes i used were either ones I already had, or ones i got at goodwill or savers. Not counting my Na'vi costume, the average cost was $10 each (clothes & makeup). (Na'vi was Probably about $30 for a bodysuit and makeup) And for the buying stuff, again, you can get as little or much as you want. I have to say, there really wasn't that much to buy at the ComiCon. I've found a lot more good stuff at anime conventions, but that is all just personal interest. I spent about $100 total (on stuff, not entrance or costumes). I bought a hat that ended up being 2x the amount I though, A bag for my BF and about $20 worth of buttons The great thing about Cons in general, is that you get a lot of free stuff. Every Con I've been to has had a table laid out with free movie posters. you also get a lot of pencils and bags and other cool stuff. They also have pretty good deals the first (preview) and last (closing) days, like half offs. Also, if you have a talent in an art form, you can apply to have your own booth. Anything from hat making, to drawing, to button making, there are tons of booths. (I believe you get in free if you have a booth) Another way To get in free is to do panels. If you or a few friends can come up with something you know a lot about and you enjoy speaking in front of people and having fun, you can see about getting a spot to do a panel. The most exotic panel I've been too was the Happy Fun Time With Candy panel. Like I said, it can be almost anything! I believe for panels, they give you a room, mics and water but you have to suply anything else (such as a laptop or candy). I hope that helped. if not i just wasted a good 20 minutes of my life for y'all...

I've been to Youmacon, which was pretty excellent. I didn't do a full-out cosplay, although I wore steampunk-ish clothes the second day, (Like with the tiny top hat and everything.) 'Twas excellent. ^^
